Sultan's Crest

A sorguç is a rich jewel for the head. It was worn by sultans and princes in the Ottoman palace.

A sultan could wear it on a turban. A turban is cloth wrapped around the head. It could also be worn on a fez, the small felt hat used in later times.

The sorguç was made to shine. It could have gold, rubies, emeralds, diamonds, and pearls. It could also hold feathers from rare birds, such as the peacock.

These sorguç ornaments were designed in the 18th century. The middle part stands on a golden stick. At the center is an emerald. Around it are diamonds in different sizes.

The sorguç also has four chains. These chains helped fix it safely to the turban. It was not only beautiful. It also showed the high place of the person who wore it.
