The Throne of Nadir Shah
This is the Throne of Nadir Shah.
Nadir Shah was the Shah, or king, of Iran. He sent this throne as a gift to Sultan Mahmud the First.
The throne was made in India. It is rich and bright, like a small treasure house. About 25,000 pearls cover it. These pearls are almost the same size.
The throne is also covered with gold gilding. This means a thin layer of gold shines over its surface. Emeralds and rubies add green and red color to it.
Long ago, rulers gave very fine gifts to other rulers. A gift like this was not only beautiful. It also showed power, respect, and wealth. This throne brings together India, Iran, and the Ottoman palace in one amazing object.
