The Throne of Abanoz

This is the Throne of Abanos.

It was made from ebony in the 16th century. Ebony is a very dark and hard wood. It was a special material.

The throne is covered with tiger skin. The tiger was a sign of strength and power. So this throne was not only a seat. It also showed the power of the sultan.

It could be taken apart and put together again. This made it useful on long journeys.

Sultan Murad the Fourth took this throne with him on the military campaign to Baghdad in the 16th century. Ottoman sultans sometimes went with their armies. A throne like this helped show that the ruler’s power traveled with him.
