Destimal Chamber
The Destimal Room is a quiet room of sacred memories.
Here, you can learn about holy relics linked to the prophets. In Islam, all prophets, from Adam to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, are seen as prophets of one faith. So each one is loved and respected.
One relic is the sword of Prophet David. David is remembered as a prophet and a king.
Another relic is the pot of Prophet Abraham. Abraham is one of the most respected prophets in Islam.
There are also pieces of cloth from the graves of other prophets. These cloths were kept with great care.
The room also holds relics of Prophet Yahya. Prophet Yahya is known in English as John the Baptist.
You can also hear the name Kadem-i Saadet. This means “the Blessed Footprint.” It is an expression of deep respect for Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Models of it are also shown here.
The room takes its name from the destimal. A destimal is a special handkerchief. In the Ottoman period, these handkerchiefs had a very important place.
They were touched to the Hırka-i Saadet, the Blessed Mantle of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Then they were given as gifts to guests during the visiting ceremony of the Blessed Mantle.
This ceremony was held with high protocol in the Ottoman palace. That means it followed very careful rules. It was a serious and honored event.
In this room, destimal handkerchiefs and destimal patterns are also displayed. They remind us of the respect, care, and love shown to the sacred relics in the Ottoman world.
