The Destimal Cover and Destimal

After the 18th century, a special visit took place here every year.

On the 15th day of Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims, the Sultan visited the Blessed Mantle, called Hırka-i Saadet. This mantle was one of the most sacred treasures in the palace.

The ceremony was very important. The Sultan led it. The highest officials of the state also took part.

After the ceremony, the guests received a special handkerchief as a gift. This handkerchief was called a destimal.

These handkerchiefs were prepared and kept in this room. That is why, in time, the room became known as the Destimal Room.
