Holy Mantle Chest

This small box held something very precious.

It was made for the Hırka-i Saadet. This means the holy cloak of Prophet Muhammad. Prophet Muhammad is the founder of Islam.

The box was made by a Bosnian master named Mehmet. It is made of solid gold. It is also decorated with jewels.

For the Ottoman sultans, the cloak was one of the most sacred treasures in the palace. So its box was not only a place to keep it safe. It was also a sign of deep love and respect.
