Footprint of Prophet Muhammad

This sacred object is linked to one of the most important nights in Islam.

The Quran tells that, one night, Prophet Muhammad was taken from Masjid al-Haram, the Sacred Mosque in Mecca, to Masjid al-Aqsa, the Farthest Mosque in Jerusalem. The angel Gabriel helped him on this holy journey.

From there, Prophet Muhammad ascended to the heavens. This journey is remembered with deep love and respect by Muslims.

It is believed that, during this time, Prophet Muhammad left a footprint on a stone. Later, the stone was cut so the footprint could be preserved.

In time, this holy footprint was brought to Topkapı Palace. Today, it is kept as a precious memory of Prophet Muhammad and of that blessed night.
