Third Chamber
The Third Hall of the Fatih Mansion tells a story about power, gifts, and war.
Here, many objects show the links between the Ottoman Empire and other states. Some were embassy gifts. These were special gifts sent between rulers. They helped show respect, friendship, and power. Other objects were war spoils. These were things taken after battles.
One important piece is an ebony throne. Ebony is a dark and precious wood. Another throne in this hall was given to Sultan Mahmud the First by Nadir Shah.
You can also see objects linked to Shah Ismail. He was an important ruler. His cup, belt, and armband are among the most famous examples of war spoils in the collection.
The hall also has gifts from India, China, and Iran. Among them are two mirrors from the 13th-century Seljuk period. These mirrors are some of the oldest pieces in the collection.
There are also insignia sent to the Ottoman sultans from different countries and states. An insignia is a sign of rank, honor, or rule.
Some rare works in this hall were sent to Sultan Abdülhamid the Second and Sultan Abdülaziz. Together, these objects show how rulers spoke to each other through gifts, honor, and rich works of art.
