The Fourth Chamber and Sword of Osman

In the Fatih Mansion, the fourth hall of the Treasury has works with a religious meaning.

In Ottoman times, the sultan was not only a ruler. He was also the caliph. This means he was seen as an important leader for Muslims.

Many objects in this hall were sent to Medina. This holy city holds the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

One important work here is a sword. It is said to belong to Hazrat Osman, also known as Uthman. He was one of the early leaders of Islam.

The hall also holds many precious religious objects. There are hangers for oil lamps. There are rosewater bottles and incense burners. There are Qurans with covers decorated with precious stones.

There are also sacred beard hairs, called Sakal-ı Şerif. These are believed to be hairs from the beard of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Another important object is the chest for the Holy Mantle, called Hırka-i Şerif. Prayer beads are also kept here.

Among the most famous works are two solid gold candlesticks. They are among the most precious pieces in the Treasury collection.
