The Door of Repentance

This door has a close link with the Kaaba in Mecca.

The Kaaba is the most holy place in Islam. Muslims all over the world turn toward it when they pray.

In 1629, Sultan Murad the Fourth repaired the Kaaba. He was an Ottoman sultan. Later, when the Kaaba was damaged again, its roof and its door were replaced.

The old door was not thrown away. It was sent to Istanbul. It became a precious object in the palace.

It is called the Door of Repentance. Repentance means saying sorry to God and wanting to become better. So this door carries both history and deep religious feeling.
