The Corridor of Concubines
This was the corridor of the concubines.
The concubines were women who lived in the Harem. The Harem was the private part of the palace. It had its own rules and its own daily life.
Food was brought here for the concubines. Marble counters were used for the plates. The plates were placed on these counters before the women came to eat.
There was also a clear order. The concubines received their food only after the chief of the Harem had left. In palace life, even a simple meal followed careful rules.
