Murat III Private Room

This room belonged to Sultan Murad the Third. It is one of the most important rooms in the Harem, the private part of the palace.

It was built in 1579. The architect was Mimar Sinan. His name means “Sinan the Architect.” He was one of the greatest builders of the Ottoman world.

The room is famous for its tiles. These tiles came from Iznik, a town known for beautiful ceramic work. The walls are covered with rare Iznik tiles. Some of them have a deep coral red color. This red stands out because it is raised from the surface.

There are also verses from the Quran on the tiles. The Quran is the holy book of Islam. These words give the room a calm and holy feeling.

The dome was made to fit the look of the tiles. Together, the colors, writing, and shape of the room create one peaceful space.

The stove is also special. It is a rare example of Ottoman design. The tiles show flowers in bloom and fruit trees. These designs bring the feeling of a garden into the room.

There is also a Selsebil, an ornamental water fountain. It gave water to the room. It also made the space feel quiet and restful.

The seats in the corners were added later, in the 18th century. They show that the room changed over time, while still keeping its beauty.
